Spinal Decompression in Silverdale

spinal decompressionAre you living with back pain? Chiropractors can offer a number of therapies to help relieve your symptoms. One of those treatments is spinal manipulation, involving adjustmnt of the spinal column using pushing, pulling or twisting movements. Another effective method of treating back pain is spinal decompression.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression is a nonsurgical treatment method using motorized traction to stretch the spine and decompress discs. During a spinal decompression therapy session, the discs and vertebrae in the spinal column are stretched and re-aligned, relieving pressure and decompressing compressed discs.

When the spinal cord is stretched, an additional 1 to 2 millimeters of space can be provided per disk, creating a “vacuum” effect to pull bulging material away from irritated nerves. Removing obstructions from nerves allows blood and nutrients to rush to the affected area, helping with healing and discomfort reduction.

To perform this treatment, your chiropractor will fit you with a special harnesses around your pelvis and trunk. You’ll then lie on a computer-controlled table where your chiropractor will customize your therapy using a computer program. The computer will move the harness and table, gently stretching and changing the position of your spine. Therapy sessions typically last between 30-45 minutes.

Benefits of Spinal Decompression

When MRI results are compared before and after treatment, after-treatment results often show a 50 percent reduction in disc protrusion. In clinical studies, the majority (86 percent) of patients reported relief from back pain. Some private clinics have reported success rates as high as 90 percent using this technique.
